Mission
The Competence Industry Manufacturing 4.0 (CIM4.0) Competence Center aims to be a strategic and operational support for manufacturing companies oriented toward the digitization of industrial processes from the perspective of Industry 4.0 (from design to production, from R&D to supply chain, from security to Blockchain).

Goals
CIM4.0 aims to make a decisive contribution, locally and nationally, to the acceleration of the transformation process of a relevant portion of the Italian production system, with particular attention to SMEs, proposing itself as an integrated pole of reference for what concerns the dissemination of skills and good practices, also with training actions and field experiences, in technological sectors and industrial fields peculiar to the Piedmontese territory, but also widespread in other Italian regions. CIM4.0 is based on the concept of “pilot lines,” or manufacturing demonstration lines.
Thanks to its industrial partners (23 large companies) and two major research centers for technical and scientific competencies (the Polytechnic and the University of Turin), the Competence will be equipped, since its establishment, with two “pilot lines,” through which the technological maturation of innovative processes and products will be supported, delivering to companies (in particular, SMEs) a structure capable of simplifying and making more competitive the approach to new markets.
The role of the TRL
The Competence Center focuses its activities starting from TRL5 and developing values up to 9, as summarized by the following diagram:

The activities
The Competence Center of Piedmont is the national reference hub for everything related to technology transfer, the dissemination of skills and specializations related to technologically advanced production cycles and the training and 4.0 culture of companies. It carries out its activities through three actions:

Ecosystem
The organization’s task, through the activation of “pilot lines,” or manufacturing demonstration lines, is to support the technological maturation of innovative processes and products, delivering to companies a structure that can simplify and make their approach to new markets more competitive.
Funding calls will be issued to accompany the Pilot Lines and training will be provided.
The enabling technologies on which the CIM4.0 pilot lines are based can be grouped into four categories
- Additive manufacturing (AM) and laser-based manufacturing.
- Smart grid, smart meters and energy efficiency.
- Industrial IoT, HW-SW platforms, sensing, cloud and connectivity.
- Artificial intelligence, data analytics, and cyber-security.
The production areas on which Competence activities will focus are:
- Intelligent advanced manufacturing.
- Automotive.
- Aerospace.
