The CIM4.0 Competence Center and TIM have pioneered an ‘innovative solution for the automation of “Network Slicing 5G,” making available various applications in Industry 4.0 and enabling companies
manufacturing to improve their production capacity.

In fact, the Edge-Cloud network technology innovation, proposed by TIM in collaboration with Google Cloud, Ericsson, SIEMENS and Reply, makes it possible to automatically manage the implementation of a “Network Slice 5G,” which is a dedicated part of the network with the specific features useful for the industrial sector, such as low latency and automatic service management.

Experimentation has shown that cloud-connected manufacturing execution system (MES) production systems used by manufacturing industries also enjoy greater scalability in remote management and have lower out-of-pocket costs, with no impact on reliability and cybersecurity performance.

Moreover, this Edge Cloud solution, by also allowing access to services available on the public Cloud, ensures a continuum between Plant, Edge and Cloud thus enabling companies to be more agile and responsive in the digital and technology transition process.

Thanks to TIM’s Network Slicing 5G automation, some manufacturing industries have tested the benefits to improve their production capacity

Through the partnership made with CIM4.0, TIM provided the 5G connectivity and managed the Edge node; Reply developed the MES application for production chain control; SIEMENS provided the first 5G industrial mobile wireless router for interconnection between the local area network and the mobile network; Ericsson provided the 5G Core and Radio network technologies and the solution for end-to-end service automation and orchestration; and Google Cloud provided the Edge Cloud node for application management on Kubernetes platform.
