For the next four years, CIM4.0 will be a partner in the European project ECOFACT submitted for “Factories of the Future” under the Horizon 2020 program.

The Competence Center, together with 19 other European companies, businesses, research centers and universities, will work on the creation of a platform that will enable manufacturing industries to optimize the energy performance of production systems. Through the platform, in fact, a product lifecycle analysis system will be introduced that will measure its energy and environmental impact and identify the margins and ways of improvement through the adoption of advanced ICT technologies.

Pilot testing at CIM4.0

The contribution of CIM4.0, in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Turin, will consist of testing the ECOFACT platform on pilot lines dedicated to Additive Manufacturing. It will then be the CIM4.0 lines that will start the tests, which will continue on 4 production lines in 4 plants in different European countries. The activity will consist of validating the conceptual components of the platform (such as smart data collection, infrastructure and digital twin developments) through the production of metallic material components by laser sintering. The decision to use our pilot lines is due to the growing attention that Additive Manufacturing is getting as a new technology for manufacturing, including from an energy-saving perspective.
