The “Digital Factory” Pilot Line project of CIM4.0 – Competence Center, created for our Innovation Cluster by Calibro Zero studio, is on the prestigious architecture website ArchDaily, among the 1000 most visited sites in the world.

Human beings, means of production and 4.0 spaces

The manufacturing world is in the midst of a rapid transformation. Planetary urgencies, new production requirements and changing standards are just some of the factors that are driving industry toward a new augmented dimension: a 4.0 factory in which the internal relationships between humans, means of production and spaces must be reformulated.

The design of the CIM4.0 Digital Pilot Line was born out of the need for a complex and ambitious program: to place a functional mix, including small industrial production, exhibition areas, offices, and educational facilities, within an existing building. The new spatial design is conceived to make the building a narrative element in which architectural elements, together with digital devices and interfaces, help CIM4.0 operators describe the tools and their uses in an intuitive and interactive way.

The space is designed as largely flexible and reconfigurable. Lightweight partitions made up of curtains allow the space to be divided into specific areas or mixed into one. The main wall consisting of a colorful grid makes it easy to reconfigure various custom-made elements, such as shelves, furniture, desks, and screens, without affecting the existing infrastructure. All other furniture is extremely lightweight and equipped with wheels so it can be moved easily. As production lines change rapidly and constantly in the contemporary world-to adapt to new technologies and market needs-the digital pilot line is a space that can be rearranged according to endless scenarios, depending on the situation.
